Why one slot has several RTPs
Return to player is the share of all stakes a slot pays back over a very long run. It is fixed in the game's maths, but a supplier can build several sets of maths for the same title, and Light & Wonder does exactly that with Rainbow Riches.
Its game catalogue lists the 2025 Rainbow Riches build in versions paying 96%, 94%, 92%, 90% and 87%, each with its own game ID. Pick N Mix and Road to Even More Riches come in five versions too, from 88% to 96%. The two Dream Pots jackpot games are offered at 92% or 94% only. The game looks identical in every version: same reels, same leprechaun, same bonuses. Only the payback differs, and you cannot see it without opening the help screen.
What the six casinos show
We opened each casino's Rainbow Riches page from a UK connection on 10 October 2026 and noted whether it states the RTP before you log in.
| Casino | RTP on the game page | Where else it is shown |
|---|---|---|
| Mecca Bingo | 95.00% ("Theoretical RTP") | in-game help |
| MrQ | 93.99% | in-game help |
| Rainbow Riches Casino | not stated | in-game help |
| Betway | not stated | in-game help |
| Virgin Games | not stated | in-game help |
| PlayOJO | not stated | in-game help |
Mecca Bingo's page also calls the original a medium volatility slot. Neither 95.00% nor 93.99% appears in Light & Wonder's list for the 2025 rebuild, which suggests both casinos are running the older original build. The list of casinos with Rainbow Riches has their licences and deposits.
What a few points cost in pounds
RTP is easiest to read the other way round, as the expected loss. A 96% game keeps £4 of every £100 staked over the long run; a 94% game keeps £6. The difference looks like two points, but it is half as much again out of your pocket.
| RTP version | Expected loss per £100 staked | 500 spins at 20p |
|---|---|---|
| 96% | £4 | £4 |
| 95% | £5 | £5 |
| 94% | £6 | £6 |
| 92% | £8 | £8 |
| 90% | £10 | £10 |
| 87% | £13 | £13 |
Five hundred spins at 20p is £100 staked, so the two columns match. These are long-run averages, not a forecast for one evening: a single session can end far above or far below them.
How to check the RTP yourself
The number takes under a minute to find, and it is worth doing before the first spin:
- Open the game, in demo or real mode, and look for the "i", "help" or "paytable" button.
- Scroll to the rules page and find "return to player" or "theoretical RTP".
- Compare it with Light & Wonder's version list: 96% is the top setting of its 2025 builds of the original, Pick N Mix and Road to Even More Riches.
- If the figure is missing, ask the casino's support for it in writing.
RTP and volatility are different numbers
RTP tells you how much a game returns over millions of spins. Volatility tells you how unevenly it gets there: a low volatility game pays small amounts often, a high volatility game pays rarely and in bigger lumps. Two games with the same RTP can feel completely different on a £20 budget. Our page on volatility for a small budget covers that side, and the guide to the Rainbow Riches games lists the RTP range of each title.
